What Happened In The African Fashion Industry This Week.

This week, we had fun taking in the many experiences curated for and at the fashion week, dye lab's event was the cherry on top.


Economy




Jumia Technologies AG has partnered with Turkey's Hepsiburada to enhance their e-commerce offerings across Africa, starting with Egypt and expanding to Morocco by early 2025. This collaboration aims to introduce Turkish brands and affordable products to the African market, leveraging Jumia's extensive presence as the continent's largest online retailer.



 



Event



Lagos Fashion Week has partnered with The Bicester Collection to host the impactful roundtable ‘The Fabric of Change,’ exploring the vital intersections of fashion, culture, and sustainability in Africa.

 

Award






Dynasty and Soull Ogun of L’Enchanteur have won the 2024 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, with Jackson Wiederhoeft of Wiederhoeft and Spencer Phipps of Phipps named runners-up, announced at a celebratory dinner in New York City hosted by CFDA CEO Steven Kolb, Vogue’s Anna Wintour, and Zac Posen of Gap Inc. As recipients, L’Enchanteur will receive $300,000, while each runner-up takes home $100,000, along with mentorship opportunities.

 


Event





Dye Lab had a unique experiential event, Dyeapolis, merging fashion, music, and cuisine to celebrate its community. The event featured cocktails from Absolut Nigeria and Quacktails, and gelatos from Hans and Rene.


Culture





Tekena Williams and Zahn Studios, with support from GTBank, embarked on a journey to explore the historic Kano Dye Pits in Nigeria.

Lagos Fashion Week celebrated the power and growth of African fashion, with events spotlighting key discussions on luxury, sustainability, and cultural influence. Notable highlights included Ezreen’s engaging talk on African luxury consumers, as well as her reviews for Vogue Runway and a detailed wrap-up for Vogue Business.

The recently concluded Lagos Fashion Week was a star-studded affair, bringing together icons from the worlds of fashion, music, and film. Davido made a surprise appearance on the runway for Ugo Monye, Meanwhile, acclaimed actress Kate Henshaw took the stage for Ejiro Amos Tafiri, Additionally, social media sensation Real Chi wowed the crowd as she walked the Heineken-sponsored runway for Éki Kéré.

Today, 'Deep as the Sea Wide as the sky' opens at the Yaba Art Museum, showcasing The Indigo Project—a unique exhibition that brings together artists, performers, organizations, and researchers. This collaborative project celebrates the cultural legacy of indigo while addressing critical issues like environmental sustainability and ethical production.
